The Craftsman Putty

Description

This multi-purpose putty is made for longevity and for complete cross-compatibility within the Allbäck family of pure linseed oil products.

Made from cold-pressed, purified, raw linseed oil and different types of chalk, this putty is used for glazing windows and also for filling in cracks and holes in wood without shrinking, outdoors and indoors.

Some extra sensitivity and practice with the material will result in craftsman-quality work that will last a long time and be easy to maintain.

Application

Remove the entire contents from the container and knead well before using. If the putty is too soft, allow to cool, or set on an absorbent surface to soak off some oil, or sparingly add some Allbäck Chalk Powder. If the putty is too firm, warm it up or add some Allbäck Purified Raw Linseed Oil.

Before applying the putty to glaze windows, paint shellac in the wooden rebates of the window that will come into direct contact with the putty. This will seal the wood and prevent the oil from being drawn out of the putty over time, leading to premature putty failure.

Brush the glass with a small amount of Allbäck Pumice Powder to remove oil residue. Paint right away or later with Allbäck Linseed Oil Paint. There is no need for this putty to be entirely cured before painting with Allbäck Linseed Oil Paint, unlike with other putties and paints. This is a major time-saver.

Storage

Allbäck Linseed Oil Putty can be kept for up to one year at room temperature in a sealed container. If the putty becomes hard, warm the putty and then knead until smooth on a cold surface. Can be frozen for long-term storage.

Allbäck Linseed Oil Putty

this is my third or fourth purchase of the linseed oil putty, which i use for filling cracks of all sorts in wood as well as for glazing. for glazing, i find it's a little soft, and so I will try it mixed with the other putty i purchased.

One more time

What's most amazing to me was realizing after month of scraping lead paint than sanding the ceiling of our home that some putty, similar in color had already been use to patch the previous holes. Was it 50, 75 or 180 years ago we may never know for certain, but we are making sure to honor with the same patience to bring it back to life as it should be. Some of my collegue are making fun of me for caring this much and presuming that the next layers of paint will be there for the next 200 years, but unless somebody goes against the soul of this home again I know it will last, my tests pieces show us around 3 inches of oil penetration and the putty allowed me to fill evenly around dowels to bring a clean surface after decades of neglecting care. Lets hope that the caring will triumph of the mockery, that the putty will hold and the safe and clean paint will shine on. So would I recommend that putty, well at least as much as the last generation who used a similar one.

Very, very good glazing putty! The consistency was perfect to allow application and cleaning on one go. Cured as expected. Ready to paint, and windows restored for another 125 years.
