Description
A favourite of Hans Allback. This handy scraper has been around in its original form since the 1960s in Scandinavia. It was designed by a famous Norwegian window craftsman, and the design has never changed. The simple design is made from one single piece of metal, where the front claw end is flat for removing paint and putty from flat surfaces, and the back edge is angled to optimize removing putty from old window frames, especially after softening old putty and paint with the SpotHeater Putty Lamp. It can also be used to apply window glazing putty. This little scraper is ideal for getting into intricate areas without damaging the wood.
The scraper's high quality steel can be easily resharpened to maintain an edge for efficient paint and putty removal. Use a bench grinder to sharpen the scraper so that it fits the profile of the surface. For more complex surfaces, have several scrapers handy with different profiles to make the work much faster.
To sharpen your own profiles:
- Draw the desired profile directly on the scraper with a marker.
- Grind gradually until you reach the desired profile. Check against the surface, and adjust where needed.
- Sharpen periodically to optimize performance.
