Description

Eastern white cedar shingles are an ideal material for long-lasting outdoor siding or roofing. Cedar shingles are thinner and smoother than shakes and have a more refined look, but these cedar shingles are not without character.

The Traditional variety is the most common size, making it easy to patch in and repair existing old shingles. The Premium variety, measures a little longer and a little thicker than the Traditional style and supports a slightly larger shingle reveal. See below for dimensions.

Cedar contains natural oils that offer an exceptional resistance against, mould, decay, and insects. This is a natural alternative to chemically treated woods, or synthetic materials, that can be toxic and age poorly.

Cedar shingles can be left unfinished, and they will age gently and beautifully. With a silvery grey hue, cedar shingle siding will retain its old world charm for many years.

The life of the wood can be extended by combining with a water-based reactive wood stain, such as LifeTime Wood Treatment, or a linseed oil treatment, such as Pure Linseed Oil Paint or Pine Tar, to give a beautiful finish that lasts - with little long-term maintenance and no peeling!

Notes on finishing

Reactive wood stains can be applied any time.

Test the moisture content of air-dried (green) shingles before applying any linseed oil preservation treatment, since it can be possible that it is above the recommended 14% threshold for our linseed oil based materials. If the moisture content is too high before hanging, then install the shingles, allow them dry in place, and apply the preservation material at a later time.
